CVGC Annual Spring Flower Show and Sale

 Description of the Event
The Cowichan Valley Garden Club’s first Spring Flower Show took place in 1960, and annual spring flower shows and plant sales have been held in different forms and at many different locations in Duncan ever since. The Show now alternates among the months of April, May and June.
The Show and Sale is the Club’s major annual public event, anticipated and attended by gardeners and plant lovers throughout the Cowichan Valley and beyond. This year, more than 50 Club members volunteered to make the Show a success.
The Plant Sale is the Club’s main fund raising event of the year. Items offered in the Plant Sale are donated by Club members, and include many interesting, unusual and hard to find specimens.
The sale is so popular that Club members and members of the public are advised to be there early to get the best selection.

The Flower Show provides an opportunity display and view examples of the many beautiful flowers and plants grown in the Valley, as well as floral designs and garden photographs. In 2010, there were exhibits in 68 different classes. This is an open show, and all entries are welcome. There is no entry fee.

The Afternoon Tea is renowned throughout the Valley for the variety and quality of sweets and savories offered along with a good cup of tea or coffee, and juice for children.
This year's  Show Convenor was  Diane McAmmond, 250-746-8577, email: diane@skirrow.org

The Schedule for the 2010 Flower Show (Click here for the Show Schedule) provided all of the details needed to prepare and stage exhibits for entry, including Entry Classes, Show Rules, Show Tips, Definitions, and a summary of Trophies and Awards.
Entries were made in four Divisions: Cut Flowers (43 classes); Potted Plants (11 classes); Photography (3 classes) and Decorative (9 classes of floral designs). Exhibitors could also bring Cut Flower entries that are not included in the Schedule, and a class would be created for them.
Judging is done by members of the Vancouver Island Horticultural Judging Group, and takes place between 10:00 am and noon.

Results of the 2010 Show

The Spring Flower Show and Plant Sale held on April 10, 2010 was a great success. Thank you to all the enthusiastic CVGC members who volunteered to help with the Show, and to the more than 200 people who attended. The weather was terrific. The several hundred exhibits entered in the Flower Show were varied and beautiful. Donations to the Plant Sale were of a very high quality, and as a result, sold out quickly. And the Tea was extremely popular. As this is the Club’s main fund raiser of the year, we are pleased that the Show made a substantial profit.

Next Year’s Show: May 14, 2011 at St. Peter’s Hall
